start again today no. 18: the woman in the huddle, metagames 🎮, math & how to just be whelmed
Hey 👋
No one else at Bed Bath & Beyond was smiling, let alone dancing. No one seemed to notice.
I noticed during our second rotation of the square donut shaped store.
A couple with furrowed brows probably about to move in together continued to inch their way through the kitchen utensils section.
I don’t have a pizza cutter, do you? We probably need a pizza cutter.
I danced back and forth while Gregg smiled and guided the cart, turning the corner to enter the land of tiny appliances.
The stoic apron clad woman demoing an off brand juicer still had 7 tiny cups filled with bright orange liquid.
Should we get a juicer?
I shook my head and gestured for him to follow. Just ahead of us, a woman in pink shoes stood in place, eyes still fixated on a fugly grey duvet set thing.
Gregg joined me for a whirl in the bedding department while the people across from us grabbed at marked down pillows with tassels. I laughed.
A man turned towards us and looked up, pillow in hand. He smiled.
We headed toward the checkout line.

Kicking off Women’s History Month with an article about Elinor Kaine Penna who made a mark on pro football writing in the 1960s and 70s when women weren’t welcome.
🧠 to get good, go after the meta-game Commonplace, 12m
“It is often useful to search for the metas in your domain as a North Star for expertise…’locate the meta’ whenever [you’re] at the bottom of a skill tree. Metagames exist everywhere in life; you just have to know how to look.”
+ boring is fun James Stuber, 5m

I’ve wonder a lot recently; is there a decline in US religious affiliation (according to Pew, yes) or are we finally experiencing wider acceptance of alternatives to religion?
🚶🏽♀️just be whelmed Seth’s Blog, 2m
With the exception of our Bed Bath & Beyond excursion, I’ve been heads down for the last week, forgetting that being overwhelmed is a choice.
