start again today no. 30: lighthouse, do better

Hey πŸ‘‹πŸ½,

Do you want to go for a walk?

No.

I looked at him.

Fine.

We walked apart. The sand under his feet was warm and smooth, mine was cold and bumpy. The rocks washed up on the shoreline made me aware of each step forward.

We hadn’t spoken in 2 hours, divided by a flag flying behind us.

You’ll never understand!

Silence.

There weren’t any other brown faces on the beach. Just people on vacation, mostly trying to escape from big world into little world. A little world with no protests, just lots of flags.

We passed an unmanned fishing pole every 6 meters. Fishing line hung at head level like tripwire.

Watch out!

I shrieked.

I know.

He smiled.

There was a lighthouse about a mile ahead. We kept talking. I held out a hand. He stopped to fix my bathing suit.

Thank you for untwisting me.

We never made it to the lighthouse. He walked with me on the rocks on our way back.
