start again today no. 6: pace, people, prestige, profit and learning
Hey đź‘‹
I spent this week recovering from the overwhelming laziness of the long holiday weekend, trying to determine whether it will be a sprint or snail slide to the end of the year. Should I attempt to rebuild momentum, or give into the even more alluring call of tiny human snuggles, books in front of the fire, toe socks and human hibernation?
I’m currently reading Company of One and Sapiens, two books that expose from very different lenses the dangers of growing too quickly. They also exposed a personal opportunity to learn to read better - so I turned to a summary of Mortimer Adler’s 1972 How to Read a Book.
Here’s what fueled my human hibernation this week. Now, back to tiny human snuggles.
🧠Think: a forty year career Lethian, 8m
Last week, I shared 115 articles on leadership worth reading again, organized by categories including growth, strategy, and personal development.
One of my favorites in personal development is a forty year career. Will Larson, Head of Foundation Engineering at Stripe, shares how to build a career over four decades by focusing on pace, people, prestige, profit and learning.
❤️Feel: the meaning of life is absurd More to That, 12m
A strangely heartwarming existential crisis, with pictures!
“Decades of human collaboration and technological progress have afforded me the luxury to log onto this cafe’s WiFi network, only for me to flip out about the fact that I can’t think of anything to write for this obscure, illustrated blog.
In the grand scheme of things, many of the endeavors we worry about can seem just as absurd.”

🚶🏽‍♀️Do: forget about setting goals James Clear, 5m
It’s almost new year new/same you time. As I was gently (and loudly) reminded when I shared my 2020 resolutions survey yesterday, you don’t have to wait for a new year to improve yourself. Well, ya. Just because you don’t have to wait, does it mean you shouldn’t? OCD me loves the clean lines of a 365 day time based goal. If you are thinking about goal setting for next year (or whenever), take 5m to read this article from James Clear first.
I see you, I love you, let’s have an awesome week.

P.S. on my blog this week: participate in my 2020 resolutions survey and be entered to win 1 of 4 $50 Visa giftcards, get some clarity on your goals for the year ahead, and be featured in the followup report.
